The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a significant honors show approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world and have been for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
