Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since March of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour title, took control to create a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
